Objectives

  • Replacing existing collections of mainframe financial and administrative systems with single integrated applications
  • Eliminating systems redundancy for administrative and financial management data
  • Providing access and speed retrieval of financial and related data for all City Departments
  • Meet State and Local reporting requirements
  • Improve technology and migrate off existing mainframe applications
  • Incorporate client-server and relational databases
  • Reducing potential for physical loss of records

  • June, 1996 – November, 1996


SIS was selected by the City of Houston to provide consulting support and advisory services to assist the City in the development of requirements for a new, fully integrated city-wide administrative system.

Called system 2000, the City’s new application is to be based on state-of-the-art technology incorporating client-server, relational databases, Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), ad-hoc user reporting tools, imaging, Internet access, and electronic data interchange. In addition, System 2000 will also incorporate new business processes, and will result in a complete redesign of City administrative functions.

The System 2000 effort will be a multi-year initiative and one of the first comprehensive efforts to modernize the basic operations of a large City Government.

On this complex, large-scale system development effort, SIS acted the lead project advisor and consultant to the Comptroller, MIS and other large City departments.
