The
Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is one of the
largest public transportation agencies in the
nation. In May 1995, the CTA issued a Request for
Proposal of consulting services associated with a
needs assessment and technology review for the
agencys capital improvement program. The
CTA selected SIS as the systems consultant based
on our experience with the agency and with other
large transportation organizations. SIS conducted
a comprehensive review of the Agencys
Capital Improvement business area including:
- Assessing and
evaluating 5 separate application systems
used to manage capital programs including
Projects development, Grants Management,
Project Control, Technical Studies, and
Document Management.
- Documenting
existing workflow and business processes
associated with capital improvement
programs.
- Reviewing
potential technologies that may be used
for deployment
- Reviewing industry
standards for similar technology and
system solutions
- Recommending an
overall technology infrastructure for
implementation
- Making
presentations to CTA senior management
With the final report
delivered by SIS, the CTA is now fully positioned
to implement a range of short and long term
initiatives to address the problems and
deficiencies in the current capital program
management needs. The CTA has implemented
numerous SIS recommendations and has taken steps
to significantly improve capital program
management at the Agency.
